It's the translation that makes it more cringey. In the original language, the motives don't seem as far-fetched and the circumstantial words are as cringey, which bears credibility in itself at some point.

A couple of years ago there has been a major failure of a whole semi-automatic weapon series distributed to the national army of Germany, that made the weapon accuracy-rate rea~lly unreliable!
This happened on a deal of a couple tons of them with said army, the "Bundeswehr"!
It's a bit surprising to see "latest german-made" weapon models with a good reputation.
