@Harry Godspeed The great famine was not sudden, it lasted for 5 years. And as for trading? They can train their people as mercenaries and send them to other countries to earn money. They can sell their people as slaves to other countries. Starting a war saves their pride as a country. Just depends on what kind of villain/anti-hero you want to be.
@Ripvanwinkle111 Don't high ur judgement just cause Roman trained his soldiers and made them powerful. Even if they had trained them as mercenaries and send them in other countries nothing would have changed by much, in fact most of them would have died even before climbing to C rank. U really said they should have sold their people as slaves showing they don't even have morals as humans, and even if they did that then Roman would still have waged a war against them anyways. And if they did sell their people then the prince wasn't protecting his people, the character of the prince who looks after his people and connection the readers get form him would change completely, he would be treated as a scum not fit for ruling but a greedy merchant who doesn't have a right of being called a human. It was only a matter of time. Starting a war doesn't have anything to do with pride, it was bcz the countries surrounding them were not in friendly terms and if they didn't wage war then after the bank takes their country as collateral they would increase the tax, rob more of them and then they would later become slaves for the strong country.
@Ripvanwinkle111 don't you think they've started the war because that's the last option they could have ? the famine literally lasted for five years so I believe they would have tried everything they could along the years. 5 year is not a short amount of time. And you said to borrow the money from the other countries, do you remember how much they owed the golden bank? the interest are too much that they can't hold back anymore that's why they have to resort to the war. you know how much interest the golden bank give. that's one of the reason why one of the viscount in the early chapters also lose to roman. because of their pressure to pay back the money to golden bank. from that, we can see how desperate they are from how much the hetro kindom owed from the bank.
