@luna she hates him because she likes him so much that she can't have him considering their status.
@Lord Seungho oh im a fan as well! I always have a thing for brute gentleman!!! I think he is the greenest of all the red flags! The art is magnificent! I think he is the way he is because of his upbringing! He was raised to be the perfect noble duke, flawless. The existence of Layla shakes his core, his mundane and boring monotonous life.
@KittyCat  @Lord Seungho  you traitors!!  I'm yeah he's a work of art  even he's single movement make you scream him name  just look at him before  he called Liet's full name and when he was telling him to not cause a scandal in his turf the whole seen was a full movie  realistic speaking I wouldn't mind being a mistress to  hot man like that BUT we have to side with Layla!!

@luna haha! I'm with Layla for sure but with situation what the duke actions is within the progression of his feelings, he's still in the process of realizing his feelings and importance of Layla. He's still bound to norms of his status as a duke and what's expected of him. He is engage to someone else and it was decided by the family. He wasn't at the state yet of choosing Layla over everything else but he is getting there. And as per the situation seemed like he is indifferent of what happened to Layla and Liet, maybe he was cautious over how he will treat Layla because he knows that what happened was the doing of her fiancé and Liet and if he showed that he is concerned of Layla it would cemented the assumptions of them tha he has feelings for Layla and the bullying would've worsened. It sort of he's protecting Layla but in our perspective that's been poorly done. We expected him to side with Layla but within bounds of his character as the duke and engage with someone else his reaction is sufficient for me as he is portrayed as calm, collected and controlled. He is not the reactive one, he works behind the scenes cunningly just like how he exposed the mother of Layla's ex-boyfriend.
@KittyCat  nicely put...
But kayle actually was not her boy friend. They were friends. They know each other for a long time. That sense of comfort can be misunderstood sometimes. And whats better to be with your best friend than a stranger in marriage. I don't like how Kyle pushed her boundary when she clearly told him that she doesn't feel anything romantic between them.... Layla always loved Mathiass. They both are toxic in their own way...
@Serene004 yes, Kyle was his fiancé, they were supposed to be married before they go to university. That's why Kyle's mother schemed on stealing her tuition. I understand why Layla chose to marry Kyle even if she doesn't love him because Layla already knows she love the duke and wouldn't love another. It would be much better to marry your friendwhom you already love as a family.
@KittyCat  he is pretty toxic n he is an adult so his upbringing is not a excuse if he like her he should say it n treat her right n pursue her right he never did cuz he thought of her as a plaything he would get bored with he looks down on her
@Cenholi  yes that's the other way of seeing his character as well. It's how the writer portrays the complexity of supposed human personality just like in real life we don't believe that there's someone who is an absolute gentleman and an absolute ass****. I mean there's good and bad within us. He wasn't completely nice but wasn't completely arrogant like his fiancé and Riette. I don't think he was looking down on her, if he did he could've ignore her existence, she's a nobody anyway, a family of his hired help. But he is interested in her, that's why he is chasing her. You would ask why chase her when he got a fiancé? He is interested, but not yet at the point of proclaming love and chose her. There's circumstances in the storyline, the progression. It's not fairytale that that chose love and live happily ever after
