I'm still in total opposition with this trope of different timelines justifying the mind of a teenager in the body of a centuries old elf.

@TotallyAbsurd to be fair, this kind of mindset trope the mc has is probably the only way as a near immortal (who still retains normal emotions unlike some vampire tropes) to keep from losing their mind or becoming depressed over time, in a parody, humans irl tend to revert to childish personalities as they age as well being too serious just leads to burnout
@NullFlameBorn this is such an astute observation. As you get older you've been through so many ups and downs that nothing seems that serious anymore. I really like the way that the mangaka writes in those moments of Aesir's reflection when he tries to put himself in others' shoes in order to give them grace for their emotions (case in point: acknowledging how hard goodbyes are for "normal" people)

More like an absurd oversimplification of a generalization. Few people really revert back to what's perceived as childish when in reality it is more akin to taking a step back and finetune your reaction based on the lessons they gathered throughout their lives.

In today's era most people have lived way too comfortably so it might skew your perception of this based on the oldies of today. Having lived through less major issues like not having access to clean running water during their earlier years or something less obvious like access to good painkillers. Imagine having to tank every single headache in your whole life, that'd probably change you deeply.

On that note you might be right for different reasons, Aesir is a hundreds years old immature brat because there's no way such an OP character faced anything so 'character building' in all his life. I'll take it that way everytime a character is dumb for its age, from now on. Either that or incompetent and/or lazy writer

Honestly, I would say the writer knows more than you're criticizing him for. He has had to let go of his pacifist ways and kill a person in order to protect those he cares about, even needing to be more proactive to ensure wars don't get out of hand. I can also see the 500 years of living a laid back life having an effect on his perception of time, both helping him remain sane living that long but still hindering his ability to live alongside "short live'd species."

But when I think about the "childish way he acts", I see a lot of similarities with Uncle Iroh from Avatar, that he's sitting back and enjoying life during his travels instead of worrying about the little things that can distract you from the joys of living.
