Comment on ChapterMy Beloved Oppressor - Chapter 21
So many biased people over here!! i know what he did is not excusable, but understandable!!! if each of you were in his place being tortured since childhood you'd hold petty grudges too. and don't start with he should've done that to the father the girl did nothing!! and maybe that's exactly the problem, it's ironic, She did nothing is what's the problem, and that's what maddening for him!! again i know it's not her fault but she's his enemies weakness it's ironic in his eyes in his pov!! still not excusable but understandable... Only he poisoned her with sweetness and sugar first. mental torture not physical, tho he suffered both... it's petty but then that's all he learnt from his childhood which was taken away by the royals!! maybe me n you can not see from where he's coming from, bc that's not us in his place...i'd say i'd be da** petty too! i'll say it again for the biased and close minded who can't have sympathy for other characters!! not excusable but understandable

@Kenji It's understandable that he lead a revolution against the royal family and the system, it's becoming less and less understandable on why he did what he did to Annette.
Exactly because what he did doesn't get any excuse, people aren't sympathetic. Because if people start to have compassion on someone like Heiner, who did horrible things to Annette, just because he has a traumatic background, people will also try to justify and rationalize what he did to the point that he get a pass free.
Annette is innocent and Heiner did make her life miserable only because her family, not her, made his life miserable. So he pushed his hate on one person that was innocent but was also the most vulnerable to him. It's basically the backstory of most abusers, who were once abused and now they abuse on someone else.
It's true he is a fictional character, but that doesn't mean we readers should be sympathetic with all of the characters.
@Marioleen It is the most reasonable opinion. And I completely agree with this opinion. From the comments above, if he was abused since childhood, it's true. So why did he have to take revenge on people who didn't know anything? Since he was so angry and resentful towards her father, why didn't he have to behave in such a bad manner towards her? It's like resenting her father but directing the anger at her as well.
