@s3lbstm0rd they can't singlehandedly take a manhwa down yet they continue to read it? Calling someone a 'white savior' jus for pointing out a narrative sequence is a massive stretch esp since you dont even know my race.my point was purely abt the fandom's blatant double standards. If we are talking abt things that are 'strongly inaccurate and insensitive' to real world trauma, a survivor of sexual assault would never willingly get together with their abuser. Yet the BL community treats 'assault to lovers' stories as absolute masterpieces, giving toxic characters endless thirst edits and redemption arcs. If readers can separate fiction from reality to romanticize literal abuse, they can apply that same logic to a dark historical setting. Im jus pointing out the hypocrisy of drawing the line at one uncomfortable theme while celebrating another. Nvm i won't say anything after this.

I'd say this again. Ofc ppl were going to post abt it. where was this energy for the countless manhwas that include grape, king peasant dynamics, master servant relationships, kidnapping, manipulation, and ab*se? Most of ppl had no problem consuming those bcs the characters were hot and sum sexualize them. No one is supporting sl*very. The story is litr set in the 1800s. Did you expect the author to erase history jus to avoid making ppl uncomfortable? A historical setting isnt an endorsement of everything that existed at the time. And why are some of y'll so obsessed with jumping straight to "racism"? Is it necessary that every story depicting historical racism is automatically supporting it? No. If the author had pretended slavery didn't exist in that time period, that would've been historically dishonest. You didn't even give the author a chance to let the story unfold. The author acknowledged slavery as part of the setting and Gerald freed the enslaved ppl as soon as he took over the ranch. You admit the author is respectful and thoughtful yet you judged the story before it had the chance to develop let alone thinking abt the efforts in their work. If you're gonna criticize problematic themes then be consistent. Don't single out one story while giving every other toxic trope a free pass jus bcs the characters are hot. Like zhenya and jk. And if you speak for author suddenly your new bl reader. 🫩

@s3lbstm0rd You assumed my race while accusing me of making assumptions. That's ironic. Also, where exactly is the "white savior complex" in what i said? I argued that depicting slavery in a historical setting isnt the same as endorsing it esp wen the story explicitly condemns it. If you think thats wrong explain why instead of guessing my ethnicity. You missed my point as well im talking abt the fandom's reaction. The bl community constantly romanticizes stories with grape, abuse, manipulation, kidnapping, and toxic power dynamics. Characters like Zhenya, Jaekyung, and others get edits, thirst comments, and ppl beg for redemption arcs despite everything they do. Meanwhile, a historical story that acknowledges slavery, doesn't glorify it and even has the protagonist free enslaved ppl gets treated as if it's endorsing slavery before the story has even unfolded. Thats the inconsistency im pointing out.

@Rei actually you should shut up. you're still goin on abt the same thing. Maybe reread what i actually said. Wt exactly was the author supposed to do after receiving threats? The story is set in a time and place where slavery was a real historical reality. Erasing Black ppl from a slavery narrative would be far more disrespectful than acknowledging that history existed. Ppl didn't even give the author a chance to continue the story before judging it. And while we're at it, are king peasant dynamics, servant master relationships, and other forms of social hierarchy in manhwas suddenly fine? I never said slavery was right. My point is that ppl seem selective about what they condemn. Other degrading systems get a pass but the moment slavery is involved, nuance goes out the window.

@Rei You're still doing that thing where anyone who disagrees with you must be "defending" slavery. Im questioning your logic, genius. You keep bringing up how sensitive slavery is but so are grape, abuse, coercion, murder, war, and racism. Fiction includes sensitive topics all the time. The question is whether they're being glorified or critically portrayed not whether they exist at all. And the law point doesnt rlly help your argument. Gerald's father owned the ranch before emancipation. The law didnt create slavery it ended its legal status. Those ppl were already enslaved before the law was passed. Atp i feel worse for the author than anything. The series barely started and ppl jumped straight from criticism to acting like anyone discussing the writing is personally endorsing slavery. Shut your mouth and keep scrolling if you don't like it

@Rei So grape, abuse, and coercion are acceptable fictional content, but slavery existing in an 1800s setting is where realism becomes a problem? The MC litr freed the slaves and the series barely started.

People can read stories full of manipulation, abuse, and grape, call them masterpieces, and suddenly draw the line at a historical setting that includes slavery. The story isnt even portraying slavery as a good thing. Gerald litr frees the slaves and gives them money to start new lives. The plot is set in the 1800s, where slavery existed whether ppl are comfortable with that fact or not. If every story had to avoid uncomfortable subjects, half the genre wouldn't exist.

Wtf is wrong with ts nga?!!
Consent??? Is it rlly mutual? Yuri is drunk and asking him in that state to say "stop" How's he supposed react? What bothers me is how Xinlu frames himself like he's being generous or charitable but then doesnt even take care of Yuri afterward. If you're going to push someone's boundaries, the bare minimum is taking responsibility for wt happens next. His brutish behavior isn't even surprising considering what happened in the early chapters of Passion. Back at the hotel, when Xinlu wanted to top Taeui and realized Taeui wasn't interested, he tried to force the situation anyway. Taeui was clearly shocked and uncomfortable but Xinlu kept pushing bcs he wasn't getting what he wanted. Thats why i have a hard time buying the idea that this is completely out of character for him. Atp i want his redemption arc. Yuri deserves better than ts.
