@Sandstone Maybe it's just a root that screams, no healing property whatsoever, Imagine using it as distraction or even to lure or stun mobs. 

@Fekfek then you aren't gonna like this story moving forward. The MC is an assassin type character, slaughter is only an option if it's necessary, to cause mayhem like that isn't something he wants to put any time in.

@Sleeping Kite I think his goal now is just "Freedom", this is actually due to the Barbarian ARC where he felt himself being more free than he was before and through his fight with Madame 8 legs he solidified his true desire and that is to maintain his freedom and live, sure he still seeks revenge, but as things stand, his idea of what truly happened is faltering and he now has to investigate the true nature of his death.

@MyNameIsJeff It's either you didn't read the story, or you don't understand how their world works... The fact you think taking revenge on a whole family that killed the Mc's, then you didn't properly read, it was a Kingdom that killed them, alongside apparently a family within the one he resides in as well as a Cult, and you think that would be so quick and easy...? Yeah then you don't understand how he doesn't even have to full picture yet and still piecing the story together.

For one, MC's Family was slaughtered during an invasion of another Kingdom, the family was also disgraced, so what Mc is currently doing which is gaining political power and influence is reversing that part. 

Two, Mc hasn't confirmed what happened to his Father and the fact that a Cult maybe involved in his and his Family's decamation, so he'd need to investigate that.

Three, MC can't just go out and slaughter a whole a** kingdom and think that won't come biting his a** later on. It's like asking a president to launch a Nuke at another country and think everything would just magically be ok?

Fourth, MC dreamt/saw his past/future and how bleak and pathetic it was, but the flames of a Dragon still resides within and that despite it all, he would still stand against the monsters be it in Human form. That revenge isn't his only end goal, it's one of them, but his main goal is to rebuild himself and his family and be a Hero... Something close at least.

@hammody RX Basically, MC thought the girl was gonna jump since she mentioned how this world is only filled with Despair. Rentarou promised to make her happy, to make her feel joy and love and that even if she were to fall to despair he'd love her even more and bring her back.

Funnily enough, the Girl wasn't going to jump, she just wanted to see everything with a bird's eye view and that her dream is to spread her fairy tale to the world and she would only rest until the world is engulfed in her fairytales or that Fairytales be one real.

A world of happy endings and love.

It's also to keep her darker side at bay too, she be wild. Not to mention, this world seems to have a very... Odd view of Woman throwing themselves at "Rich" old men. So, I'd say it's pretty much just to keep her satisfied.

Not for nothing, MC likes her enough to provide for her and gift her such things.
Also People keep saying MC is a pushover... I mean yeah, he lived as an average Japanese they aren't some weird chuunibyou who seeks some kind of power. He just wants to live quietly, adventure just finds him. Also Woman apparently.

@Tricks yet, do not forget gents, the queen brought herself to him. It ain't gonna take that long for the man to crumble, not to mention, at some point his wife will be persuaded to "share" her husband too.

@Min yul I mean yeah, have you seen her latest feats? Mereoleona is now literally Mana incaranate and have been able to rebirth her dead Mages into Flame Guardians and are basically Immortal now.

@I need sleep The Task was meant to give him a better perspective in his loneliness, it isn't about the cleaning, it's about learning to work with others and let others in his lonely world. You may call it however you want, but it isn't child labor when the child himself wasn't forced to do it, he could have skipped the whole thing since it's considered "Training" not order, and it worked, the child is full of sadness and grief, and has been alone even during his days in the academy, so the Tower mage made him interact with the staff learning to have bonds with them and enjoy his life without the presence of magic. 

Also War Mage is an actual occupation, it basically makes him the equivalent of a Knight, War Mage (Combat Mage) is a guardian who's duties is to protect the kingdom. The promise is meant to show the Tower Mage sees and acknowledge his potential, and using the Title of War Mage as a goal he can attain, and that he'd be able to purchase his old property from her through that.
She sees the MC as a Genius with his Rapid growth, and that in her eyes the MC can become something greater than a simple War Mage, it's just the bare minimum of his potential.
