Does anyone know why manhwa and manga authors always picture the temple and religion in a bad or morally grey light cause nearly every one i've read the priests or pope is a demon or and evil person

@Kat E Not all but most of them do. Just a part of the plot but then became a trope. Most of the time it's on corruption
@Ellundril lol and I have some good retorts to most of them for the non-believers x.O; and I'm technically agnostic theist (those who sit the fence, yet are not naive enough to believe we are the most advanced organisms in the universe)
Denying the usefulness of religion's ability to unite people in times of chaos or teach extremely complex ideas to the uneducated masses is just being blind. "don't live beyond your means" "don't be a di**" "welcome to the first examples of science" "morality good" "if you are going to gamble, only do so with as much as you are willing to lose"
As for the opener: The church and cults are easy targets. There are several reasons behind it; from "good person is actually a bad person" trope to "powerful organization is secretly evil." In manwha, "powerful organization is secretly evil" is always huge because... well... south korea AKA The Republic of Korea is also known as The Republic of Samsung ^-^ you don't get elected without the big families say so and you get disappeared if they don't like you ^-^ The reason why Samsung immediately moved all their factories back to Korea once the Tarrif war began instead of negotiating with the US is because of how much control they have in Korea x.x

Authors have several option when choosing a organisation as villains. Like imperial family, magic tower, dark mage groups, demon worshipper, a high ranking noble organisation, merchant group, mysterious group or church. Depending on which group the protagonist are part of, villains are chosen. So, in this manhwa FL and ML are of imperial family group. So, choosing church was best option for author in this manhwa cause that bítch sister of FL was awakened as a saint in FL past life.
@Ethan Elliot As long as the believers don't try to force their values on others they are free to do as they like (at least for me and in my country). Churchs on other side have long histories and some have actually start being proactive again to take over countries in name of "faith". Believing ok, but believing in churchs, I'll pass 😉.
Story wise, I also like stories like "I Became The Hero’S Mom" where the church is depicted as the epitome of good 😁

@Ellundril christianity has over 10 denominations because it had to adopt to the times. Several of them don't even HAVE a church for this very reason -.- other religions have it stated in their doctrine that you are NOT allowed to alter them. This causes a very localized religion that, the moment it leaves the location it was established, its practices will no longer become valid. The parasitization of religious radicals due to immigration that have weeded their way into even the highest levels of some countries governments is aborent. The first, absolute rule to becoming a citizen to another country is accepting their culture, adopting their language, and holding pride in your citizenship.
I live in the US and legal migrants voted so overwhelmingly for Trump that there was not a single district that was migrant heavy that didn't go to him, even in places like California and Newyork (states that are absolutely, 100% democrat, while he was running as a republican)

Well historically no matter what your faith, if your religion accepts money it probably has been invovled in some form of corruption. Think of it this way you have two priests one is good and will spend his time taking care of the needy, looking after the poor and generally being a great role model of the his.
Then you have the second priest he joined for power and money he spends most of his time using his relegion to encourage others to sacrafice money and time to his cause.
This guy will work to get people to spend more money on the temple, the vestments/robes, he stages more pagentry, invests his money in songs, and literature etc. He is glamorous and pretty. Second priest says he is spending the money on the poor and down trodden but you don't have to be around the poor and down trodden. Second priest's way seems more convenent for you to drop money in the collection plate and go home to your nice warm house.
The first priest is like, "Hey you need to come serve food to the poor and you need to give your time and no I am not going to build you a fancy house to worship in that's money that could feed so many people."
Think about which is more appealing to the average person. It isn't hard to figure out which priest will have more outward success and influence on the community. Even if they are from the same faith the second priest will have more people follow him the then the first. So even when trying to judge results despite the first priest having more sincere followers he can't win in terms of numbers and money.

@RoyOskid this is incorrecto. Your example is flawed, heavily, heavily flawed. All priests accept donations and use those donations to do their charity work and church upkeep, as well as feed themselves x.x A corrupt priest demands donations beyond what the faith subscribes (between 2-10% of your yearly income or you can participate in charity work is the usual), using their position to take advantage of their followers, and, sad as it is, using the church as the cover for illegal activity such as drug and slave trafficking.
The first church is not an example of a good priest is the major issue -.- There are churches that have homeless shelters, health insurance programs for those in need, and even no interest loans if, persay, your house burns down. A good church can be a perfect example of socialism at times, where the entire community comes together and everyone helps each other without relying on government programs. It's because of this you get a lot of religious individuals that don't understand the need for a government having social programs "people can just help each other" x.O; not everyone is so nice.
remember, I'm agnostic theist x.x not a church goer :p just so many atheists out there that don't know the first thing about religious practices that it starts getting pathetic... it's almost like they forgot where science came from

@Ethan Elliot My example is not flawed, it is a template that creates a series of motives. For example if you drop money in a store eight out of ten times your likely to have a person say excuse me you dropped this. The other times those people will take the money and run. If you create any scenario which involves power and money it will eventually become corrupted. For the same reason that their are dirty politicans, and police no matter the type of government, no matter the faith any time their is unquestioned power it will ultimatly no matter how well intentioned become corrupted. There is numerous examples in history.
@Kat E historically,if we go back to olden days medieval times the clergy and noble faction had control over common people and lived with priviledges.Mostl likely that eould be the cause why they are potraying them as evil. But if u ask me mostly the higher authorities(like the conservatives) are mostly evil or against liberal ideas there are gud people who actually have real faith in g od rather than using g od name to spread evil.
